New model report - January 2012 - by Kevin Fenix.
Audi A6 Allroad

This new, third generation, Audi A6 Allroad, is due to go on sale in the summer of this year. Initially it will be offered with the choice of three V6 engines, two diesels and a petrol All have a capacity of three litres. The TFSI petrol unit produces 228 Kw and 440 Nm. This enables it to deliver a top speed electronically limited to 250 kph (155 mph), with 0-100 kph acceleration in 5.9 seconds. Combined cycle fuel consumption is 31 mpg (8.9 lt/100 km).
One of the diesels produces 150 kW with 450 Nm and has a combined cycle consumption of 46 mpg (6.1 lt/100 km), with exhaust emissions of 159 gm/km. This places it in Irish road tax band D, with a current annual charge of 481 euro. The more powerful diesel delivers 180 kW/580 Nm. No performance figures are given for this engine.
All three engines are connected to a seven speed S tronic automatic/manual gearbox. The Quattro all wheel drive comes with torque vectoring to provide the best roadholding and handling, especially in on-road dynamic driving. All engines have automatic Stop/Start and thermal management, in order to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Overall dimensions are : Length - 4940 mm, Width - 1900 mm, Height - 1470 mm, Wheelbase - 2910 mm. The adaptive air suspension lowers the ride height by 15 mm at higher speeds and raises it by 35 mm at the push of a button for off-road driving. There is also a lift mode, which the driver can select for particularly rough going and which raises the clearance by a further 10 mm. The hill descent control automatically limits speed to between 9 kph (6 mph) and 19 kph (12 mph). A drive select system enables the driver to vary the steering response, the air suspension, throttle response, transmission, sport differential, air conditioning, lighting and adaptive cruise control. In Efficiency mode these systems are all regulated to work as economically as possible.

In the modern tradition the car comes with a host of electronic systems like, radar based adaptive cruise control, with a stop/go function. At speeds below 30 kph (19 mph) this system can initiate emergency braking if a collision is imminent. There is an active lane assist, night vision assistant, driver information system with a rest recommendation function and a park assist that takes over and performs the parking manoeuvre automatically.
External recognition features are, flared wheel arches, extended side sills, stainless steels guards front and rear to protect the undersides, roof bars and vertical slats in the stainless steel grille.
