New model report -- February 2012 -- by Kevin Fenix.
Mercedes-Benz B class

Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, the new Mercedes-Benz B class has now arrived in Ireland. The new model has a number of improvements over its predecessor. It is lower in overall height, with a new electro-mechanical power assisted steering, a revised rear suspension and an upgraded electronic stability programme. To give the interior a greater degree of versatility, the rear seats are on runners, enabling them to be adjusted forwards or backwards.
The B180 CDI has an output of 81 kW with exhaust emissions that position it in Irish road tax band A, with a current annual charge of 160 euro. It has a price, excluding delivery and associated charges, of Euro 29,330. On the petrol side the B180 BlueEfficiency, is on sale at Euro 29,890, excluding delivery and associated charges. It falls into Irish road tax band B, with a current annual charge of 225 euro. Power from both engines is transmitted through a six speed manual gearbox. As an option the 7G automatic/manual is also available. In the interests of fuel economy, all models come with an automatic Stop/Start.
Like its C, E and S class sisters, the new B class also comes with an extensive range of safety and accident preventative systems.
